People of Earth! It was good to be back in the Cream City, a place I last visited in the earlier part of the century, on a drive across the country, where we broke down in the early trials of experimenting with running vehicles on vegetable oil. Our host Jay Geils is a tireless organizer in the tradition of making sure everyone has shoes, food, a decent place to work, a life philosophy of service, an understanding of precious life becoming more precious when we twine in mutual aid. Jay orchestrated the printing of our shirts with the cooperatively run, worker-owned Shaky Hands Co-op. His ongoing projects include expanding various union efforts; participating in the Cooperation Milwaukee umbrella organization that fosters mutual aid relationships, cooperative development, community assemblies and other counter institutions; and resuming work on the pandemic-paused Operation Get the Lead Out, a grassroots coalition of citizens and community organizations fighting for the removal of the toxic lead pipe infrastructure in Milwaukee.
